Senators, You play an essential and critical role in the governance and future of our beloved country. We believe you ran for your current position with patriotic objectives based on the foundational documents of the Declaration of Independence and the Constitution. We know you each took an oath of office to “support and defend the Constitution of the United States against all enemies, foreign and domestic.”   We believe that’s where you started.But we’re worried you’ve lost your way and have forgotten (or are afraid to honor) that oath.   For here is the reality. The whole country sees you are openly, publicly aiding and abetting the introduction of coarseness, indecency, ignorance, pettiness, cruelty and revenge to the highest office in the land.   You are actively engaged in the process of delivering to your constituents what no one has seen since our country’s founding: Authoritarian government, whitewashed education and free speech only for those in power.   You are depriving your constituents’ grandkids of a joy we all experienced growing up but are barely able to maintain to this day: Freedom to see and learn for ourselves how things really are and how to make them better.   You must surely see that history will judge you harshly as impotent weaklings and cowardly quislings afraid to put your country before your party’s chaotic leader.   Your government branch was designed to provide checks and balances against the very undemocratic actions of the current Executive Branch. Instead, you are enabling the president’s manic drive toward an “imperial presidency.” We plead that you, finally, live up to your oath. Continue the job our Forefathers fought for – to keep us all from being subjected to the whims of a wannabe King.   We know you’re afraid of retribution.So were signers of the Declaration of Independence. Your role now is no less significant. Stand up for what is right. Stand tall for your role as representatives of the people. Take action to reign in the “King” and return balance to our democracy.
