In Minneapolis, on United States soil, a United States citizen was shot and killed by a government ‘agent’ while complying with that agent’s requests. Renee Good was an unarmed, non-criminal mother of three, driving away from Johnathan Ross, when he shot her in the head three times. That is not law enforcement or protecting our communities. That is cold-blooded, premeditated murder. An ICE ‘agent’ then saying, "I don't care" and preventing medical personnel from treating Ms. Good are not the words or actions of officers lawfully protecting themselves and the community. More troubling, this is part of a broader pattern of unchecked violence, impunity, and abuse carried out by federal immigration enforcement agencies against members of our communities. New videos showing ICE ‘agents’ asking American citizens protesting whether they’ve, “learned their lesson over the last few days” are deeply troubling. Such language implies violent intent and raises serious questions about the ‘agents’’ premeditation and mindset on the scene. My wife and I strongly urge you to act before more innocent Americans are murdered in a similar manner. ICE must face serious accountability. It must not be allowed to operate above the law. Johnathan Ross and all others involved in Ms. Good’s murder must be prosecuted. His personal files and computer, taken by ICE ‘agents,’ must be turned over to local law enforcement. Those ‘agents’ must be charged as co-conspirators. ICE ‘agents’ must be required to show faces, badge numbers and names, as required with actual law-enforcement officers to ensure accountability. You, as a member of Congress, have the authority and the duty to rein in these lawless attacks. Please use that authority. Rein in ICE.
