I am deeply alarmed by the reckless dismantling of America’s military leadership under Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth. Congress cannot continue to stand by while experienced, highly qualified military leaders are dismissed without transparent justification. This is not responsible leadership—it is a dangerous purge that weakens our national security.
Our military exists to defend the United States, deter our adversaries, and protect our allies. That mission depends on experienced commanders with decades of operational knowledge, strategic judgment, and earned trust throughout the ranks. Arbitrarily removing senior leaders creates instability, disrupts continuity of command, damages morale, and sends a message of chaos to both our troops and our enemies.
America faces growing threats from Russia, China, North Korea, cyberattacks, and international terrorism. This is the worst possible time to hollow out our military’s leadership. Readiness suffers when expertise is replaced by uncertainty or political loyalty. Our service members deserve competent, experienced leadership—not political interference.
Congress has a constitutional duty to provide oversight of the Department of Defense. That responsibility does not disappear because these actions originate within the executive branch. Demand a full accounting of every dismissal, hold public oversight hearings, require clear justification for these removals, and ensure promotions and appointments are based on merit, experience, and the needs of our national defense—not politics.
I am extremely concerned that these actions are making America less safe at home and abroad. Every unnecessary firing of a respected military leader weakens the chain of command and undermines the readiness our nation depends on in times of crisis.
Our military is one of America’s greatest institutions. Do your job. Stop the politically motivated destruction of its leadership before lasting damage is done. Our national security is too important to sacrifice for ideology or personal loyalty.
