The proposed Republican budget constitutes an egregious assault on the financial well-being of millions of Americans, including not only seniors and veterans but also those living with disabilities and families relying on vital assistance programs like SNAP. Forcing individuals to work longer for reduced Social Security benefits breaks the sacred promise of a dignified retirement after decades of hard work and shakes the foundations of economic security for our most vulnerable populations. Simultaneously gutting Medicare, the Affordable Care Act, and food assistance for children while lavishing massive tax cuts on the ultra-wealthy is an unconscionable prioritization of profits over people. During the campaign, explicit assurances were made that Social Security benefits would remain untouched, yet this plan represents a betrayal of that commitment to the American people. Instead of undermining the fundamental safety nets upon which so many rely, we must explore alternative solutions that safeguard these essential programs and ensure their long-term viability without placing an undue burden on those they are intended to support.
