The raid on the Institute of Museum and Library Services by Elon Musk's DOGE team and the Acting Director's intent to dismantle the agency is deeply concerning. Local libraries provide crucial services, resources, and support to communities across the nation, particularly in underserved areas. With a meager budget of just 0.0046% of the federal budget, the impact of IMLS is immense, generating $50 billion in economic activity through grants that help educate students, preserve collections, and connect with communities. Dismantling this vital agency would be a massive blow to education, cultural preservation, and community engagement. I urge you to take immediate action to stop the DOGE raid, protect IMLS funding, and remove Elon Musk from any position of power within the federal government. His overreach and attempts to gut essential services for his own gain are unacceptable and an abuse of public trust. Our libraries and museums deserve robust support, not callous destruction at the hands of an unelected billionaire.
