I am writing today to express my dismay and horror at many of the actions taken by President Trump in his first two days back in office.
Many of the actions he took were expected - pulling out of the Paris agreement, cancelling state EPA waivers that allowed our state to enforce a shift towards EVs, and even pardoning many of those who participated in the January 6 insurrection. I was disappointed but not surprised by those actions.
However, several of his actions have shocked me. In no particular order: He pardoned not only those who invaded the Capitol on 1/6/21, but several people who beat police officers. He pardoned Ross Ulbricht, the creator of the Silk Road dark web site that created a market for drug trafficking and assassinations. He effectively erased the concept of transgender people from federal policy. And he abruptly cancelled the appointments of hundreds of people who were simply trying to request asylum in our country.
I know you agree with me that this is unacceptable, and I hope that you will find ways to hold President Trump accountable for his actions in the coming years. I know that this will be difficult to do from the minority position in Congress, but I also know that you will do everything you can. Thank you for continuing to represent our shared values in Congress.
