Stop This Madness- Save Our Democracy

To: Rep. DeGette, Sen. Hickenlooper, Sen. Bennet

From: A constituent in Denver, CO

June 12, 2025

I am writing to express my deep concern over the continued failure to hold Donald J. Trump accountable for repeated and serious violations of the U.S. Constitution. I urge you to take immediate action to pursue all available constitutional remedies—including impeachment, criminal referral, or disqualification under Section 3 of the 14th Amendment. Trump’s actions have not only disgraced the office of the presidency, but they have also inflicted lasting damage on the constitutional order and democratic norms that define the United States. The constitutional violations are extensive and well-documented: Incitement of Insurrection (14th Amendment, Section 3):
On January 6, 2021, Donald Trump incited a violent mob to storm the Capitol in an attempt to prevent Congress from certifying the lawful results of the 2020 presidential election. His words—“fight like hell or you won’t have a country anymore”—directly contributed to the violence that resulted in death, injury, and a national security breach.
Subversion of the Electoral Process:
Trump personally pressured state officials, including Georgia’s Secretary of State, to “find” votes to overturn the election. He and his allies coordinated a fraudulent “fake electors” scheme, submitting illegitimate slates in several states, in violation of Article II and the 12th Amendment. Obstruction of Justice:
The Mueller Report outlined at least 10 instances of possible obstruction, including efforts to fire the Special Counsel and influence witness testimony. Though the DOJ deferred prosecution due to Trump’s status as a sitting president, Congress is not similarly constrained.
Abuse of the Pardon Power:
Trump issued pardons to allies convicted of crimes related to their silence or loyalty—undermining the impartial administration of justice and creating the appearance of bribery and cover-ups. Defiance of Congressional Authority:
Trump and his administration repeatedly ignored lawful congressional subpoenas, refusing to testify or turn over documents—an affront to Article I and Congress’s constitutional role of oversight. Attacks on the Judiciary:
Trump has openly threatened judges, prosecutors, and jurors involved in his criminal and civil cases. These actions are not only dangerous, but directly undermine judicial independence and the rule of law guaranteed under Article III. Emoluments Clause Violations:
While in office, Trump continued to benefit from payments from foreign and domestic government officials at his properties, in violation of the Constitution’s Emoluments Clauses. These are not partisan grievances. They are sustained, intentional violations of the Constitution. Failing to act normalizes corruption, invites future abuse, and weakens our democracy at its core. I respectfully urge you to take all legal and constitutional actions available to you to ensure Donald Trump is held accountable. Upholding the rule of law is not optional—it is your duty. Our democracy depends on it.
