DOGE was intended to eliminate government waste, but the recent PSI report reveals it has generated at least $21.7 billion in waste from January to July 2025. This staggering amount could have covered vital programs like food assistance, Medicaid expansion, and free school lunches instead of being squandered. The findings detail egregious misuse of taxpayer funds, including paying employees $14.8 billion not to work, $6.1 billion for separating or placing staff on leave, $263 million in lost loan income, $155 million for accomplishment emails, $110 million for spoiled aid, $66 million underutilizing staff, $41.8 million for questionable relocations, and $38 million in sunk project costs. Rather than efficiency, DOGE has fostered tremendous waste, undermining its very purpose. A comprehensive investigation by Inspectors General is imperative to determine DOGE's full impact and hold those responsible accountable for this blatant mismanagement of public funds intended to serve the American people. Substantive reforms must address and prevent such inexcusable waste moving forward.
