Oppose Tariffs on Canada
To: Sen. Cruz
From: A constituent in Austin, TX
March 8, 2025
Dear Senator Cruz,
I am writing to express my strong opposition to the tariffs imposed on Canada. These tariffs not only strain our relationship with one of our closest allies but also have tangible negative consequences for American businesses and citizens. I think you should side with Rand Paul on this issue, In quote him here from an article in The Hill article “GOP senator says Trump tariffs hurting constituents”
“Almost every industry in Kentucky has come to me and said, ‘It will hurt our industry and push up prices of homes, cars,’ and so, I’m going to continue to argue against tariffs. Additonally Thom Tillis has expressed his concern.
As a Texan, I take pride in the strong economic and cultural ties we share with Canada. However, I have personally witnessed the fallout from these tariffs. Friends in Canada have shared that liquor stores are removing Kentucky bourbon from their shelves—a direct blow to American producers. Additionally, many Canadians I know have canceled their trips to the United States, further impacting our tourism industry.
Furthermore, I believe that President Trump’s approach of targeting our allies with such measures is deeply destructive. These actions undermine the trust and cooperation that have been the foundation of our international partnerships for decades.
These tariffs create unnecessary barriers and foster resentment between our nations. I urge you to advocate for their removal and to work toward policies that strengthen, rather than hinder, our partnership with Canada.
Thank you for your attention to this matter. I look forward to seeing your continued leadership on issues that promote economic growth and international cooperation.
