I am writing to request that you initiate an investigation into the board of Peace Now and call for its disbandment pending a thorough audit of how the organization has managed its funds.
While Peace Now presents itself as a peace advocacy organization, serious questions have emerged about the board's financial stewardship and whether donor funds have been used appropriately and transparently. Organizations that operate in the nonprofit space and claim to advocate for important causes must be held to the highest standards of financial accountability, particularly when they solicit donations from the public and potentially receive any form of government funding or tax benefits.
An independent investigation should examine several key areas: how Peace Now's board has allocated funds, whether expenditures align with the organization's stated mission, what percentage of donations go to administrative costs versus programmatic work, and whether any conflicts of interest exist among board members. The investigation should also review whether the organization has complied with all nonprofit reporting requirements and whether its public disclosures accurately reflect its financial activities.
Given the current climate where public trust in institutions is already fragile, it is essential that organizations claiming to work in the public interest operate with complete transparency. If Peace Now's board cannot demonstrate proper financial management and accountability, the board should be disbanded and reconstituted with members who will prioritize fiduciary responsibility.
I urge you to use your oversight authority to launch this investigation immediately. Constituents deserve to know that organizations operating in our communities are managing funds ethically and legally. Please inform me of what steps you will take to address this matter and ensure accountability.
