Help ICE Maintain It's Focus On Protecting Us

To: Sen. Cornyn, Sen. Cruz, Rep. Sessions

From: A constituent in Waco, TX

January 30

I am writing as a deeply disturbed constituent to express my vehement opposition to recent conduct by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) and related federal immigration enforcement actions. The pattern of violence, constitutional overreach, and lack of accountability is unacceptable and demands immediate congressional response. Nationwide protests and a coordinated “ICE Out” strike are scheduled this weekend, reflecting growing public outrage at federal tactics perceived as brutal and unconstitutional. The Associated Press has revealed an internal ICE memo authorizing agents to forcibly enter homes without judicial warrants using only administrative warrants — a dramatic departure from long-standing Fourth Amendment protections and a shift that legal experts say undermines basic civil liberties. New disclosures show ICE is actively considering opening six new immigration detention centers — expanding an already sprawling, under-oversight detention system that civil rights organizations describe as inhumane. Meanwhile, Senate Democrats have blocked a major government funding package unless stronger restrictions on immigration enforcement are adopted, reflecting deep legislative concern with how these agencies operate. A federal judge in Minneapolis has sharply criticized ICE for violating numerous court orders in recent months, further underscoring that routine practices may be flouting judicial authority and constitutional safeguards. The expansion of warrantless entries, escalating use of force in community settings, dramatic increases in detention, and federal resistance to stronger oversight threaten not only public safety and trust, but the fundamental rights enshrined in our Constitution. I urge you to advocate for and support: 1. Clear statutory limits on warrantless home entries and enforcement actions. 2. Mandatory use of body cameras and transparent reporting on all immigration enforcement operations. 3. Independent oversight mechanisms with real consequences for constitutional violations. 4. Restrictions on the expansion of detention facilities until humane and lawful standards are assured. We must reaffirm that constitutional rights apply to everyone in this country — regardless of immigration status. Thank you for your attention and leadership.
