Don't cut our affordable housing!

I'm writing as your constituent to express my deep concern about the House FY2026 Transportation, Housing and Urban Development (THUD) spending bill and its proposed cuts to vital affordable housing, homelessness, and community development programs. The bill reduces HUD funding by nearly $1 billion from FY2025 levels—at a time when our communities are already struggling with skyrocketing housing costs, eviction spikes, and growing homelessness. These cuts would eliminate the HOME Investment Partnerships Program, slash funding for fair housing enforcement by 67%, and undercut support for eviction prevention and rental assistance. They also include troubling policy changes that could allow housing authorities to impose harsh work requirements, rent increases, or time limits on struggling families. This is not a responsible budget. These cuts would only deepen the housing crisis and hurt the very people these programs are designed to protect: low-income families, seniors, people with disabilities, and those experiencing homelessness. Instead of cutting critical support, I believe Congress should: -Fully fund all Housing Choice Voucher (HCV) contracts and renew Emergency Housing Vouchers -Provide $4.922 billion for HUD’s Homeless Assistance Grants -Fund eviction prevention programs at $20 million -Support at least $1.3 billion in Tribal housing funding, with $150 million in competitive grants -Increase funding for public housing operations and repairs These are the kinds of investments that will help communities thrive, ensure basic human dignity, and support the right to safe and affordable housing for everyone. Please oppose the proposed cuts in the FY26 THUD bill and fight to protect and expand federal investments in housing. Our communities—and our future—depend on it.
