I am writing to strongly urge you not to vote for any government funding bill until significant actions are taken to stop the current administration's blatant disregard for Congressional authority and appropriations laws. Donald Trump and unelected billionaire Elon Musk have launched a coordinated attack on the agencies that serve the American people. This includes firing key directors at the NLRB, EEOC, and CFPB, preventing these agencies from protecting workers and consumers. They have frozen federal funds for essential services like Head Start and disability support, seized control of departments from career civil servants, and attempted to dismantle critical government infrastructure. Most alarmingly, the White House has taken control of Treasury Department payment systems—threatening to shut off payments for Social Security and other essential services—and committed to illegal impoundment tactics, withholding taxpayer funds designated for programs that benefit Americans. These actions are breaking the law and redirecting taxpayer dollars away from services for the people, toward the interests of billionaires like Musk. As we approach the deadline for government funding, it is clear that Congress cannot allow this administration to continue to bypass the law. Despite any agreement made between the House and Senate, the White House has repeatedly shown that they will ignore any provisions they disagree with and act as though no appropriations laws apply to them. Until the administration ends its funding freezes, stops its illegal practices, and allows federal agencies to function properly, I ask that you vote against any government funding bill. Any deal made under these circumstances will be meaningless, and it will not be in the best interest of the American people. We need real assurances that the White House will adhere to any funding legislation passed by Congress. Until that happens, any final agreement will be insufficient.
