I am writing in the terrifying wake of Trump and Hegseth’s speeches to the gathered generals of the US Armed Forces. The things they said, the actions they call for and the demonizing of half the nation is nothing short of a Call to a sort of cold civil war. They spoke of eliminating the rules of engagement as a woke and liberal tool for evil. They are paving the way for unchecked, violent military engagement with civilians in our cities. There can be no doubt that the Trump administration aims to turn the military into the president’s personal tool for revenge, the destruction of his political opponents, and an unimaginable step towards even greater concentration of power into the hands of a single person. This must not stand. We have never been at a more dangerous precipice in the totality our nations history, and it requires bold action of you like never before. Take a stand and fight hard. You must not fear breaking with norms. You must not fear how something “plays” politically or polls strategically. They have already broken every democratic norm and they will fight you too the and nail, regardless. They will end our democracy and have made historically fast moves in that direction already. You must be bold and break the mold in order to save our nation. Now is the time for bold actions. We’re about to lose everything.
