Oversight over the DOJ‘s compliance with Epstein Files Transparency Act

To: Sen. Ricketts, Sen. Fischer

From: A constituent in Omaha, NE

February 22

I shouldn’t have to even send this and as men you should be ashamed of yourselves but as fathers to daughters, despicable and you both should be in jail. This was submitted to you by Ryan Wilkins and I’m sharing his words as well. “The three of us share a common bond. It is deeper, realer, and more foundational to our identities than any party, office, or accolade ever could be. We are all fathers to daughters. We cherish them, and we would do anything to protect them. Official reports estimate more than 1,000 daughters—real children with real parents, like you and me—suffered unspeakable horrors at the hands of Jeffrey Epstein and his conspirators over the course of 25 years. These are known victims who represent the tip of the iceberg. (By 2019, when Epstein’s child-trafficking ring likely ended, the FBI maintained over 30,000 active, unsolved missing-juvenile files.) As your constituent, and the dad of two girls who are also your constituents, I seek your voice and leadership in fighting for the DOJ’s complete, independently verified compliance with the Epstein Files Transparency Act (“EFTA”). We demand justice for these victims and accountability for their abusers. As you know, the EFTA passed overwhelmingly (427-1) in the House and Senate. The Act commands the Attorney General to “make publicly available” broad categories of Epstein-related documents in the Government’s possession and explicitly forbids the withholding of material “on the basis of embarrassment, reputational harm, or political sensitivity.” While the DOJ may redact records to protect a child’s privacy or to prevent the dissemination of gruesome and pornographic images, such exceptions must be (1) produced and declassified “to the maximum extent possible” and (2) accompanied by a written “summary of the [withheld] information,” including the “legal basis upon which the redactions were made.” At every turn, the DOJ has made a mockery of Epstein’s victims and Congress’s statutory mandate. Initially, FBI Director Kash Patel testified “nothing in the files indicated that others [besides Epstein] were involved” in this ring—an absurd lie destroyed by recent disclosures and the ensuing worldwide parade of disgraced, resigning business and political leaders. Last year, Attorney General Pam Bondi told Fox News Epstein’s “client list” was “sitting on my desk right now”—only to deny, months later, that such a list ever existed. More recently, the DOJ’s production missed Congress’s EFTA deadline by more than a month; contains extensive, legally indefensible redactions (with myriad documents blacked out in their entirety); and fails to account for nearly three-million records the DOJ has acknowledged it possesses but refuses to produce. Some of the most highly sensitive disclosures—material implicating the most powerful men in the world—have since been removed by the DOJ, without notice or explanation. Shockingly, the DOJ published personal identifying information and nude images of Epstein’s victims, retraumatizing them, while redacting the names of the sultans, politicians, and billionaires who perpetrated these crimes—abusers who, to date, have faced no legal repercussions. These are vile men who deserve public outing and severe punishment. Epstein and his comrades delighted in their defenseless victims’ pain. In one email, Epstein plainly tells a DOJ-redacted recipient: “I loved the torture video.” Again and again (400+ times), Epstein uses the cryptic “Whoops”—often, in circumstances surrounding death and sexual violence. For instance, when a friend told Epstein that RFK Jr.’s estranged wife, Mary Kennedy, was found dead in her backyard under strange circumstances, he replied: “Whoops.” When another redacted sender explicitly gave Epstein “permission to kill” someone who had lied to her, Epstein promised: “No one will lie to you and get away with it from me. No one. Whoops is correct.” In 2011, Epstein told another redacted friend that one of his trafficked victims “said that she felt [G]od’s presence next to her when she was in bed,” elaborating: “[S]he knows that [J]esus watches over her. And he helped save her life. Whoops.” When the friend giddily suggested Epstein “should dress up as [Jesus]” next time he sees her, Epstein replied: “Of course, the ‘OH jesus Im coming’ trick.” Epstein spent years and untold millions building a web of underground tunnels on his private island. The DOJ’s disclosures include an image of an odd, large, trapdoor-like chute permitting easy disposals from Epstein’s home directly into the shark-infested ocean below. On December 6, 2018, the FBI filed its child sex-trafficking case against Epstein in federal court; that same day, Epstein ordered six 55-gallon drums of sulfuric acid to his island. As you may know, sulfuric acid is a highly corrosive, dehydrating acid used in laboratory and industrial settings to break down soft tissue, denature proteins, and chemically alter organic matter. In short, we will never know how many children were brutalized and “whoopsed” at the hands of Epstein and his conspirators. Gentlemen: Where the hell are you on this? Have you been lulled to sleep by the daily drip of insanity? As evidence of Epstein and his conspirators’ atrocities mounts, your silence is deafening. This month, during AG Bondi’s shameful congressional testimony, we learned the DOJ hasn’t even interviewed volumes of sex-trafficked survivors who cry out for justice. Bondi refused to apologize or even acknowledge Epstein’s victims, and in response to pleas for the arrests of his accomplices, she shouted unresponsive nonsense about the Dow and 401(k)s. Days after a private meeting with DOJ deputy attorney Todd Blanche, Ghislaine Maxwell—the only person who’s been jailed in connection with Epstein’s decades-long child-abuse ring—was inexplicably transferred to a minimum-security prison, where she enjoys custom-made meals, a “special area” for visitors replete with “an assortment of snacks and refreshments,” play time with puppies, and access to the warden as “her personal secretary and administrative assistant,” per The Guardian. Senator Ricketts: You’ve called justice for Epstein’s victims a low priority “in the grand scheme of things.” Your despicable nonchalance trivializes these victims’ plight. And according to a Washington Post survey, 86% of Americans—including 75% of Republicans—support “releasing all files from the Epstein case.” If you don’t quickly come to your senses on this, Nebraska voters will bury you in this year’s reelection campaign against Dan Osborn. Wake up, Pete. Prove you’re not a member of the Epstein class. Congressman Bacon: You’re a 29-year Air Force veteran with impeccable national-security credentials. Significant evidence suggests Epstein was a kompromat—a foreign-intelligence asset who collected scandalous material to blackmail, manipulate, and control powerful figures. Among other things, DOJ disclosures show Epstein installed hidden cameras throughout his homes; systematically archived this footage; built valuable, extensive personal networks across our government, business, and academia; and kept close ties with Russian intelligence. According to one FBI confidential human source, “Epstein [was] Vladimir Putin’s wealth manager,” and DOJ disclosures detail Epstein’s repeated, years-long overtures for private meetings with Russia’s President. Surely, you must perceive the link between U.S. officials associated with Epstein and their suspiciously pro-Russia, anti-NATO views. And just this week, the UK’s Prince Andrew was arrested for transmitting British state secrets to Epstein. Now more than ever, we desperately need brave leaders to step up and protect the United States from our foreign adversaries. The fox cannot guard the henhouse. Likewise, the DOJ has proven it’s not a trustworthy partner in victim justice or EFTA compliance. Congress, and each of you individually, must use your voice, power, and plat
