Support the Ban Artificial Superintelligence Act

To: Rep. Crane, Sen. Gallego, Sen. Kelly

From: A constituent in Kearny, AZ

September 10

Please co-sponsor and vote yes on the Ban Artificial Superintelligence Act, introduced by Senator Sanders and Representative Casar. This bill takes a necessary first step toward reining in AI development that is, by Casar's own accurate description, less regulated than the average food truck. That is not a defensible status quo when we're talking about technology with the potential to fundamentally reshape human society. Yes, the definition of superintelligence is contested — but that's an argument for getting regulators in the room now, not for waiting. As computer scientist Roman Yampolskiy points out, laws routinely regulate categories whose boundaries require expert interpretation, and by the time we can prove a system is already superintelligent, it may be too late to act. OpenAI's president just declared we are in the AGI era. The moment for precaution is right now. The bill's framework — a new cabinet-level agency, independent expert oversight, and a pause on advanced AI development until safety standards are set — is exactly the kind of serious institutional response this technology demands. Support it.
