Do not support the elimination of the Department of Education. While education policy reforms may be warranted, completely eliminating the federal department would be detrimental to public education across the country. The Department plays a crucial role in administering annual funding of over $70 billion to states and school districts, as well as enforcing civil rights laws, setting academic standards, and collecting vital data. Dismantling it could lead to inequities, lack of oversight, and disruption for millions of students. Instead, I request a careful review and targeted reforms to address any specific concerns, while preserving the Department's essential functions that support quality education for all children. Any hasty dissolution would be an ill-advised overreach that could set back public education for years to come.
