Preserve Public Lands, Our Shared Natural Heritage
Public lands are a precious natural resource that belong to all Americans, providing invaluable opportunities for recreation, conservation, and responsible resource use. The proposal to sell off 2 million acres of public land in the Western United States over the next five years is deeply concerning. While the stated intent is to address housing needs, the reality is that these lands are far more likely to be developed into luxury homes, exclusive resorts, and other projects catering to wealthy interests rather than creating affordable housing solutions. This plan lacks proper safeguards and public input processes, setting a dangerous precedent for the wholesale liquidation of our shared natural heritage. Instead of selling off public lands, we should be exploring sustainable development strategies on existing private lands and focusing on revitalizing urban areas. Preserving iconic landscapes like national forests, wilderness areas, and long-distance trails like the Pacific Crest Trail is crucial for protecting our environment, respecting indigenous cultures, and ensuring equitable access to nature for all. I urge you to reject any efforts to sell off public lands on a massive scale. These irreplaceable treasures must be managed responsibly and preserved for current and future generations to appreciate and enjoy. Real solutions to housing affordability lie elsewhere, not in the privatization of the public lands that are a birthright of all Americans.
