Stand Up For Democracy
To: Sen. Banks, Rep. Houchin, Sen. Young
From: A constituent in Bloomington, IN
April 12
I am writing to you in a state of profound alarm and outrage over the illegal, unconstitutional, and tyrannical actions of President Donald Trump. His recent abuses of power—weaponizing federal agencies against immigrants, wrongfully deporting legal residents, militarizing the border, and purging nonpartisan military and intelligence leaders—demonstrate a clear and present danger to American democracy. The Trump administration’s actions mirror those of Central and South American dictatorships, where thousands of citizens were "disappeared" by malevolent regimes. Now, we are witnessing the same tactics here: - Wrongful Deportations: The administration illegally deported Kilmar Armando Abrego Garcia, a legal U.S. resident, in defiance of court orders. The Supreme Court ruled 9-0 that the government must return him, yet officials refuse to comply—proving they believe they are above the law. - Weaponizing Data: Trump’s "Department of Government Efficiency" (DOGE) is collaborating with Palantir and ICE to mine IRS and Social Security records, targeting immigrants for deportation—including minors and U.S. citizens caught in the dragnet. - Politicizing the Military: Trump fired NSA Director Gen. Timothy Haugh at the behest of conspiracy theorist Laura Loomer and installed an unqualified loyalist as Chairman of the Joint Chiefs, subverting national security for political control. - Militarizing the Border: Trump’s new memorandum deploys active-duty troops to detain migrants, laying the groundwork for mass deportations under the Insurrection Act. This is not normal governance—it is dictatorship. If Congress does not act now, we will lose our democracy. *I Demand Immediate Action:* 1. Begin impeachment proceedings against Trump for abuse of power, obstruction of justice, and unconstitutional overreach. 2. Launch emergency investigations into DOGE, ICE, and the IRS for civil rights violations and illegal data-sharing. 3. Defund and block Trump’s militarization of the border and mass deportation plans. 4. Hold hearings on the wrongful deportation of Abrego Garcia and subpoena officials who refuse to comply with court orders. Migrants are the bedrock of our economy, they are not a threat to our society. We have long been proud of being a melting pot where everyone is welcome, when did we let go of that ideal? History will judge whether you stood by as democracy collapsed—or whether you fought back. The American people are watching. Do your duty.
