Support Ranked Choice Voting (SB2004)

To: Sen. Simmons-Gessesse

From: A constituent in Chicago, IL

March 29

Please support and co-sponsor SB2004, to solidify that municipalities can choose Ranked Choice Voting if they wish. I support ranked choice voting, and I also support the ability of voters to choose how we run our local elections. Three Illinois cities have already overwhelmingly voted to improve their elections by using RCV in Evanston, Oak Park, and Skokie. We need a voting system that will better reflect the people's will rather than fracturing the vote across many candidates. We need a voting system that actually allows third parties to stand a chance in the general election. First Past the Post needs to be a thing of the past NOW. We need the General Assembly to support democracy and make it clear that RCV is allowed at the local level, which is why I am asking you to support this bill.
