I am writing to urge you to support the War Powers Resolution with a March 30th deadline for the use of force in Iran, and to demand that it receive a vote on the House floor as soon as possible. The U.S. is now deploying 2,500 Marines from the 31st Marine Expeditionary Unit to the region. The House had an opportunity to act on March 5th, when the Khanna-Massie War Powers Resolution came to the floor and it failed by just four votes. Rep. Gottheimer's War Powers Resolution offers a second path. It sets a March 30th deadline for the use of force in Iran, requires the President to seek congressional authorization to continue, and explicitly prohibits the deployment of ground troops without congressional approval. The Constitution is unambiguous: the power to declare war belongs to Congress. I urge you to fulfill that constitutional responsibility by supporting this resolution and demanding that it receive a floor vote as soon as possible.
