I am writing to express my deep concern and absolute opposition regarding the administration’s decision to host "UFC Freedom 250"—a private, corporate, pay-per-view cage-fighting event—on the White House South Lawn. This is a severe violation of federal norms, public space regulations, and basic government ethics.
While advertised as a celebration of our nation's 250th anniversary, this event is a highly exclusive, commercial venture that coincides with a private birthday celebration. Reports and legal filings indicate that corporate "partner investment" packages were marketed for up to $1.5 million, and the entire broadcast is locked behind a Paramount+ commercial paywall. This is not an inclusive national celebration; it is the monetization of the executive mansion for private profit.
Furthermore, this event raises alarming ethical and legal questions that demand immediate congressional oversight:
- Violation of Public Space Laws: A federal lawsuit filed on June 6, 2026, highlights that the administration bypassed Congress, ignored National Park Service regulations prohibiting sporting events on federal parklands, and skipped mandatory environmental reviews to hand over historic property to a private entity.
- Blatant Conflicts of Interest: Financial disclosures reveal personal financial holdings by the executive branch in TKO Group Holdings (UFC’s parent company). Using the prestige of the White House to promote a commercial entity in which the President holds a personal financial stake is an abuse of power.
- Misuse of Public Monuments: Building a massive 92-foot-high private arena on the South Lawn and staging promotional weigh-ins at the Lincoln Memorial weaponizes historic public spaces for private branding and partisan spectacle.
The White House belongs to the American people, not to corporate sports promoters or personal financial interests. Our nation’s 250th anniversary should be marked by dignity, unity, and strict respect for the rule of law—not by converting the seat of American democracy into a commercial arena.
I urge you to exercise your oversight authority to investigate the permitting, funding, and ethical violations surrounding this event, and to demand that federal properties remain dedicated to public service, not private enrichment.
