My emails and phone calls to you have this far gone unanswered. Not so much as a form letter response has appeared in my inbox. And yet, I persist.
Before I get to the important things, I have a small bone to pick. Were I not a single mother, I would have made the five hour drive to attend Sen. Marshall’s town hall because, no matter its location, I am a constituent. To see people I know personally who made the trip dismissed as paid actors is pathetic and appalling. But at least Sen. Marshall has held a town hall.
There’s no sense in getting into every single issue, since it seems you don’t read these anyway, so I’ll cut to the chase. The bottom line is this: Trump’s actions are hurting Kansas farmers and families. USAID payments being withheld have caused a real and painful impact on farm families counting on them. Tariffs will cause prices of crucial goods to rise such that many small family farms will go out of business, and may even bankrupt my own family, currently on its fourth generation of farmers on our land in Kansas. These rising costs due to your harmful policies will also likely prevent me from building a home so that I can join the farm legacy. Farmers who rely on Social Security, Medicare, and/or Medicaid are rightfully nervous about their financial futures. These farmers work hard in all weather to ensure we are fed. And now you are threatening their livelihoods and land through your cowardice.
Stand up to Trump, Musk, and Elon. Now. Before it’s too late. Make no mistake: I do not see this as Trump’s policies. I see them as yours. Evil triumphs when good men do nothing. Restore my faith that you are good men.
I am only one person. But I am not alone. And, in the words of an African proverb, “If you think you are too small to make a difference, you haven’t spent a night with a mosquito.” I recognize that you might be in the vocal minority if you stand up. But that’s how change begins.
Stand up or step aside.
