I am writing to express my strong opposition to the proposed transfer of 150 acres of Mount Hood National Forest land to the City of The Dalles. While this is presented as a municipal necessity, it is clear that the primary driver for this expansion is the staggering water demand of Google’s data center operations.
Mount Hood is a crown jewel of Oregon’s public lands. Transferring this acreage to city control effectively bypasses the National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA) and silences the public’s voice in how our federal forests are managed. We should not be subsidizing one of the world’s wealthiest corporations by sacrificing public land and critical watersheds, especially as our state faces increasing drought and climate instability.
I urge you to use your platform to protect Oregon’s natural heritage and publicly oppose any federal legislation that facilitates the privatization of Mount Hood National Forest for industrial use. Our public lands belong to the people, not to Big Tech.
