On behalf of the independent performance stages in every community across this nation, I urge you to oppose the inclusion of the weakened TICKET Act in the upcoming Continuing Resolution (CR). The live entertainment community would like to work with Congress to make this bill better.
Here are the key flaws of the proposed TICKET Act:
Legalizes Speculative & Fake Sales by Another Name: The bill allows sellers to rebrand speculative sales as “services,” leaving fans at risk of paying high fees for tickets they may never receive.
Ineffective Against Scalping & Automated Bots: The TICKET Act references the BOTS Act but doesn’t strengthen enforcement measures.
No Requirement to Disclose Original Face Value: Without requiring disclosure of the original ticket price, consumers are in the dark about where their money goes.
We are willing to compromise and find a solution to get a version of the TICKET Act passed. However, in its current form, it allows for unchecked sales of speculative and fake tickets by brokers and resale platforms. We urge Congress to engage with the live entertainment sector. We would be happy to discuss meaningful consumer protection reform with your office.
