Trump’s Escalating Threats Toward Greenland Are Disqualifying
I am writing as your constituent to ask you to publicly acknowledge that Donald Trump’s recent threats toward Greenland—along with his broader conduct toward U.S. allies—are unacceptable and disqualifying for any president.
In January 2026, Trump renewed his demand that the United States “needs” to control Greenland, a self-governing territory of Denmark, a NATO ally. Unlike prior remarks, he refused to rule out coercive measures, prompting unified rejection from Danish and Greenlandic leaders and widespread concern among U.S. allies.
This follows a clear pattern. In March 2025, Trump stated that the United States would not defend NATO allies who do not meet spending targets, directly undermining collective defense. He has also threatened major tariffs against close allies such as the European Union and Mexico and repeatedly misrepresented U.S. security treaties, including the U.S.–Japan alliance.
Threatening allies, questioning sovereignty, and signaling that treaty commitments are conditional weaken U.S. credibility and embolden adversaries. This is not tough leadership—it is reckless and dangerous.
I expect my representatives to defend the rule of law, treaty obligations, and America’s standing with its allies. I ask you to state clearly that this behavior is unacceptable and that no president who acts this way is fit to lead.
