Support AB 2389 to Protect California Homeowners from the Solar Property

To: Asm. Lee, Gov. Newsom, Sen. Wahab

From: A verified voter in San Jose, CA

March 9

I am writing to urge you to vote YES on AB 2389 to extend the property tax exemption for solar and battery storage systems. For four decades, California has wisely ensured that homeowners are not penalized for investing in renewable energy. If the legislature fails to act before the current protection expires at the end of the year, residents could face significantly higher taxes starting in 2027 simply for installing new panels, adding battery backups, or upgrading existing systems. A solar property tax is counterproductive to our state's climate goals and places an unfair burden on residents trying to do the right thing. Rooftop solar and local battery storage provide essential benefits to our communities by reducing strain on the electrical grid and helping to prevent blackouts, all without adding costs to local infrastructure. Please support AB 2389 to keep clean energy affordable and protect the financial security of California’s solar owners.
