Pass a Budget Before the Deadline

To: Sen. Hawley, Sen. Schmitt

From: A verified voter in Kansas City, MO

January 20

I’m writing to urge you to work with your colleagues to pass a responsible federal budget before the deadline and prevent another government shutdown. Shutdown threats and delays create real harm for everyday Americans. They disrupt pay for federal workers, delay services people rely on, and create uncertainty for families, small businesses, seniors, and anyone who depends on stable government programs. Even the possibility of a shutdown causes stress and instability that the country does not need right now. I understand budgets require negotiation, but I believe lawmakers have a duty to govern responsibly. Please do your part to support a serious, bipartisan budget agreement and vote to keep the government operating without interruption. Americans may not agree on every policy issue, but we should be able to agree on this: the government should not be allowed to shut down because Congress can’t finish its job. Thank you for your time and your service. I would appreciate a response letting me know where you stand and what steps you are taking to help pass a budget and avoid a shutdown.
