Denounce Misleading Election Messaging From Elon Musk's America PAC
I am your constituent, and I expect every elected official to defend a free and fair election, whichever party benefits.
According to CNN, Elon Musk's super PAC, America PAC, recently texted voters in Colorado's Weld and Adams counties: "Your ballot request is in. Confirm now where and when to return it." Colorado automatically mails a ballot to every active registered voter. Voters were confused, and county offices received calls from residents wondering whether someone had submitted a request on their behalf.
Election officials from both parties dealt with the fallout. Weld County's Republican election chief and Adams County's Democratic election chief both reported calls from worried voters. Colorado's Secretary of State called the messaging misleading. In Washington state, the Secretary of State urged voters to avoid VoteSafe.org, a site tied to America PAC. His office said it is a third party that cannot actually register voters. The site's own disclaimer says its voting information may not be accurate. America PAC did not answer CNN's questions about the Colorado texts. It said on X that Washington officials were trying to "suppress" voter registration.
I ask that you:
1 Publicly denounce the spread of inaccurate voting information by any group, including America PAC, and say so in a statement I can read.
2 Call on America PAC to stop sending the misleading texts, send corrections to everyone who received them, and direct voters to their state and local election offices.
3 Tell me what you will do in Congress, including calling for oversight and urging the appropriate agencies to act on any violations of election law.
4 Respond to me in writing within 14 days.
Voters shouldn't have to wonder whether a text about their ballot is accurate. Whoever funds it, confusion about how to vote harms every voter, and the officials who run our elections should not have to clean it up alone.
