Stop Genocide in Iran

To: Rep. Flood, Sen. Ricketts, Sen. Fischer

From: A verified voter in Lincoln, NE

April 7

You must act immediately to stop President Trump from carrying out his threat to destroy Iran. His statement that "a whole civilization will die tonight" is an explicit threat of genocide against 89 million people. This crosses every legal and moral line. Trump has already ordered strikes on Kharg Island and threatened to destroy Iran's bridges and power plants. He set an 8 p.m. deadline for Iran to comply with his demands or face annihilation. His claim that Iranians are begging us to bomb their homes is propaganda designed to justify mass killing. No population asks to be bombed into submission. Congress has the constitutional authority to stop this. Invoke the War Powers Resolution to force withdrawal of U.S. forces. Introduce articles of impeachment. Cut off funding for military operations against Iran. The House and Senate have multiple tools to prevent this catastrophe. Iran rejected a temporary ceasefire and wants a permanent end to the war. That's a reasonable position when facing threats of extermination. Diplomacy is still possible, but only if you constrain Trump's ability to wage unlimited war. The Strait of Hormuz crisis does not justify threatening to wipe out an entire nation. Act now before this deadline passes.
