To everyone and Congress, straight and to the point from me I and Meta Ai: Insurance rates have climbed hard the last few years. In 2023 the national average for full coverage was 2,019 dollars according to Insurify. In 2024 Bankrate reported 2,349 dollars and Insurify reported 2,313 dollars. In 2025 Bankrate reported 2,638 dollars, a 12 percent jump from 2024. The main drivers are higher repair costs, expensive parts, more uninsured drivers, and bigger claims. A big reason for uninsured drivers is that the DMV and insurers don’t share data in real time, so people can keep plates and registration without coverage. This bill puts the Department of the Interior at the top to oversee the whole system and connect the DMV, the Department of Justice, insurance companies, and other agencies. With real time data sharing, insurers get updated info immediately on DUIs, license changes, and coverage lapses, so they don’t have to overcharge everyone to cover the unknowns the Department of Justice gets real time information for the plates they need to look out for that haven’t been returned that are driving without insurances, etc.. That’s how we stop the hikes and protect people from paying for hikes and risks we aren’t causing.
