I am writing to you with deep alarm over President Trump’s blatant efforts to weaponize the Department of Justice against his political enemies. This is not speculation or rumor — the President himself has openly called for investigations and prosecutions of those who oppose him, and his administration has taken concrete steps to bend the DOJ toward his personal and political agenda.
When a President uses the power of federal law enforcement as a tool of revenge, it strikes at the heart of our democracy. Equal justice under the law means nothing if prosecutorial decisions are driven by political loyalty or personal grievance. The American people cannot trust the DOJ if it is being turned into a political weapon.
I urge you to take immediate, forceful action:
1) Hold public oversight hearings into the President’s attempts to direct DOJ actions against his opponents.
2) Demand transparency from DOJ leadership and the Inspector General on any politically motivated directives.
3) Advance legislation that strengthens the independence of federal prosecutors, protects whistleblowers, and codifies guardrails against political interference.
4) Speak out, clearly and publicly, against any effort by this or any future president to use the DOJ as an instrument of political persecution.
This is not a partisan issue — it is about preserving the rule of law. If Congress allows these abuses to continue unchecked, we risk setting a precedent that will permanently damage American democracy.
I urge you to act swiftly and decisively. The independence of the Justice Department and the integrity of our constitutional system are at stake.
