Thank you for taking action in limiting ICE’s unrestricted access to Illinois DMV data.
I am so happy you have barred Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) from using the Nlets network (International Justice and Public Safety Network) to access state DMV data. ICE only wants to use that data meant for traffic enforcement to track individuals for deportation and to track and intimidate Americans who peacefully protest ICE's activities. While blocking immigration offices’ access to Nlets will not prevent federal law enforcement from obtaining information needed to investigate serious crimes, it will significantly reduce abuse of the system.
I urge you to now use your platform to encourage elected leaders in other states to follow your lead, ensuring that all Americans' privacy and First Amendment rights are protected from warrantless surveillance. This is not about partisan politics – it's about protecting America's founding ideals!
Thank you again for taking action so my personal DMV data will not be accessed by ICE!
