Support the TREES Act to Protect Our Forests
To: Gov. Hochul
From: A constituent in Brooklyn, NY
October 9, 2024
I’m writing to urge you to pass the Tropical Rainforest Economic & Environmental Sustainability (TREES) Act. As New York continues to lead the nation in sustainability efforts, this legislation is crucial in ensuring that our state does not contribute to the destruction of tropical forests.
Stopping the loss of tropical forests (as well as mangroves and wetlands) could deliver 20% of the climate solution by 2030, yet 18 million acres of forest disappear every year. That’s half the size of New York State.
The revised TREES Act addresses the concerns you raised, while still providing the environmental and economic benefits needed to protect our planet and support local businesses.
I strongly encourage you to sign this legislation and help ensure New York plays a key role in mitigating the climate crisis.
