What happened to my mail???

To: Rep. Strickland

From: A constituent in Auburn, WA

October 14

While the adage “Neither snow nor rain nor heat nor gloom of night stays these couriers from the swift completion of their appointed rounds” is not the official motto of the USPS, our local folks could only hope that they could aspire to get a fraction of the way there... In late August, our community mailbox was replaced. The outgoing mail slot had been vandalized. We weren’t notified of the impending replacement. We received keys from the HOA, but alas, no mail showed up. In fact, no mail has been delivered since the installation of new boxes. Residents must drive the 4 miles to the Auburn Post Office to retrieve mail. We’re told that the delay is caused by the lack of a “master lock” that allows the letter carriers to open all boxes to slot the mail. WHY WOULD THE NEW BOX UNIT BE INSTALLED BEFORE THE MASTER LOCK WAS IN HAND? I am in the process of settling my father’s estate and several paperwork items have been delayed because I have been unable to get to the Post Office before closing time. Through “Informed Delivery” I know that I have a jury summons to Federal Court, but I will not receive that piece of important mail until fully 5 days after it should have been delivered. I realize this is a small issue for you and your office, but at least a dozen families are affected by this delay. Local USPS managers have been of no help; nor has the HOA in the Lakeland Hills development. I did file a complaint on the USPS site, but that only served to tell me that the master lock was not available to install. So, I do not know where else to turn to get this issue elevated. Thank you for your help!
