Oppose the Nomination of Dr. Nicole Saphier for Surgeon General

To: Sen. Husted, Sen. Moreno, Rep. Beatty

From: A verified voter in Columbus, OH

April 30

I am writing to urge you to oppose the nomination of Dr. Nicole Saphier for Surgeon General. While Dr. Saphier possesses clinical credentials that previous nominees lacked, she remains fundamentally unqualified to lead the nation's public health infrastructure. The Surgeon General is not a "The Nation's Doctor," but a systems administrator for the U.S. Public Health Service Commissioned Corps. Dr. Saphier’s platform fails the test of suitability for several reasons: - Scientific Mismatch: Public health data proves that 70–80% of health outcomes are driven by systemic factors (Socioeconomic Determinants). Dr. Saphier’s "individual responsibility" model ignores these drivers, offering no strategy for the systemic issues that move national health statistics. - Constitutional Concern: By prioritizing individual autonomy over collective health protections (like herd immunity), her platform creates a disparate impact on the poor and the immunocompromised. This risks a violation of the 14th Amendment’s guarantee of Equal Protection. - Operational Inexperience: Unlike previous Surgeons General, Dr. Saphier does not have an MPH and has never run a state or federal health agency. We cannot afford a learning curve for a communicator-in-chief when our national health systems require an expert in population science and risk management. I ask that you reject this nomination and demand a candidate with proven expertise in public health administration.
