Oppose executive overreach undermining Constitution's checks and balances

To: Gov. Abbott, Lt. Gov. Patrick, Sen. Cook, Rep. Morales Shaw

From: A verified voter in Houston, TX

February 19

On February 18, 2025, President Trump signed an executive order declaring that only the attorney general or the president can speak for the U.S. when interpreting the meaning of laws carried out by the executive branch. This is a blatant overreach of executive power that hopes to undermine the system of checks and balances enshrined in the Constitution. By granting the President and Attorney General unilateral authority to interpret laws as they see fit, it oversteps the judicial branch's role and erodes the separation of powers fundamental to American democracy. This order poses a grave threat to the rule of law and must be vehemently opposed regardless of political affiliation. I urge you to take immediate action to challenge this executive overreach and protect the integrity of our democratic institutions.
