#OffTheList In defense of Cuba, support H.R.7521, S.136, and H.Res.1056

To: Sen. Hickenlooper, Sen. Bennet, Rep. Evans

From: A constituent in Thornton, CO

March 7

I am sending this email as your constituent to demand immediate intervention by Congress to stop the Trump administration’s full-scale oil blockade against Cuba and the cruel humanitarian crisis it is creating. A summary of our demands: ⁃ Remove Cuba from the State Sponsors of Terrorism list ⁃ End the blockade ⁃ End the occupation of Guantánamo ⁃ Respect Cuba’s sovereignty—stop attempts to overthrow the Revolution ⁃ Support H.R.7521, S.136, and H.Res.1056 https://www.congress.gov/bill/119th-congress/house-bill/7521 https://www.congress.gov/bill/119th-congress/house-resolution/1056 https://www.congress.gov/bill/119th-congress/senate-bill/136 Cuba is facing a growing humanitarian crisis due to a U.S.-imposed oil blockade. The Trump administration has also threatened new tariffs against any nation that sends fuel to Cuba, which has been under a U.S. trade embargo since 1962. These measures have caused fuel shortages and widespread blackouts, while the cost of food and transportation has skyrocketed. “This is a massive violation of human rights,” says Ernesto Soberón Guzmán, Cuban ambassador to the United Nations. “It’s a massive violation of international law.” The U.S. government is waging an undeclared naval blockade against Cuba. The Navy and Coast Guard are interdicting ships in the Caribbean, cutting off fuel, and strangling the island. Hospitals are canceling surgeries. Water pumps are failing. Schools are closing. UN experts call it collective punishment and a violation of international law. This is the moment to act. Co-sponsor and vote for H.R.7521 introduced by Rep. Jim McGovern and S.136 introduced by Sen. Ron Wyden and Sen. Jeff Merkley to end restrictions on trade, exchange, telecommunications, and travel with Cuba, for our mutual benefit! The blockade of Cuba is endangering the lives of ordinary Cuban people and is designed to threaten their sovereign right to decide their own future. End the Monroe Doctrine policy of aggression and military domination. Support and co-sponsor H.Res.1056, introduced by Rep. Nydia Velázquez, for a “New Good Neighbor” policy of cooperation with our Latin American and Caribbean neighbors. Let Cuba Live!
