Request for Oversight and Transparency Regarding Delaney Hall Detention Center

To: Sen. Klobuchar, Sen. Smith, Rep. Stauber

From: A constituent in Bovey, MN

May 29

I am writing as a concerned Minnesota resident regarding recent reports surrounding the hunger strike and conditions at the Delaney Hall detention center in Newark, New Jersey. I understand there are differing accounts coming from advocates, detainees, elected officials, and federal agencies. Because of that, I am not writing to assume facts that have not been fully verified. However, I do believe these reports warrant serious oversight and transparency. I respectfully ask that your office support efforts to: ensure independent access to detainees and medical care, protect detainees from retaliation related to peaceful protest or hunger strikes, encourage transparency regarding conditions inside the facility, and support appropriate congressional or independent review where necessary. Regardless of political perspective on immigration policy, I believe basic human dignity, safety, and accountability should remain priorities in any detention setting. Thank you for your time and for your service to Minnesota and the country. I appreciate your consideration of this issue.
