Create Strong AI Regulation, Antitrust Standards, and Product Liability

To: Gov. Newsom, Asm. Pellerin, Sen. Laird

From: A verified voter in Santa Cruz, CA

September 16

As your constituent, I am writing to urge you to establish comprehensive regulatory oversight for artificial intelligence companies that prioritizes public safety, market competition, and corporate accountability. Technological progress must not come at the cost of legal responsibility or fair market practices. I request that you support legislation that enforces antitrust laws and prevents AI companies from coordinating or colluding under the pretense of industry self-regulation, as highlighted in recent reporting by The Guardian. Furthermore, legislation must uphold strict product liability to ensure AI developers remain fully responsible for flaws, damages, and safety failures resulting from their deployments, rather than granting them liability waivers. Finally, we need mandatory, independent, and transparent oversight rather than voluntary corporate compliance. Please stand up for consumers and fair competition by ensuring AI corporations are held fully accountable for the systems they build and deploy.
