Urge Immediate Action to End Escalating Trade War with China

To: Sen. Moody, Pres. Trump, Sen. Scott, Rep. Bean

From: A constituent in Yulee, FL

April 9

federal I am writing to express my profound concern and frustration regarding the escalating trade war between the United States and China. The recent implementation of a 104% tariff on Chinese imports by President Trump has led to a retaliatory 84% tariff on U.S. goods by China. This tit-for-tat escalation threatens to destabilize our economy, harm American businesses, and increase costs for consumers. The imposition of such steep tariffs has already resulted in significant market volatility. Major stock indices have experienced sharp declines, reflecting investor anxiety over the potential for a prolonged economic downturn. Industries that rely heavily on international supply chains are particularly vulnerable, and the agricultural sector faces the loss of critical export markets due to China’s retaliatory measures. Furthermore, these protectionist policies risk alienating key trading partners and could lead to long-term damage to our international relationships. The European Union and other nations have expressed strong opposition to the U.S.’s tariff strategy, with some implementing their own countermeasures. I urge you to take immediate action to de-escalate this trade conflict. It is imperative that our government seeks diplomatic solutions and engages in fair negotiations to address trade imbalances without resorting to punitive tariffs that harm American workers and consumers. Please work towards policies that promote free and fair trade, protect American industries, and maintain the stability of our economy. Thank you for your attention to this critical matter.
