This Republican administration's recent comments questioning the validity of due process, and of adhering to the Constitution in general, are an alarming violation of the oath to protect and defend the Constitution.
Without due process, any “arrests,” such as that of Kilmar Abrego Garcia, are abductions. Without due process, sending people, such as Mr. Abrego Garcia, to foreign prisons, for financial considerations, is human trafficking.
The Constitution clearly states the judicial system must determine if a person is guilty or innocent, not the executive branch. Courts have ruled denying anyone due process is unlawful. The Supreme Court has demanded Mr. Abrego Garcia’s return.
This administration has blatantly ignored the courts, essentially declaring it answers to no one.
If we are to remain a nation governed by the rule of law, Congress must intervene to ensure the Constitution is adhered to, as tasked in Article One.
I and my wife again implore you and your fellow members of Congress to rein in this administration’s authoritarian bent. You have a sworn duty to do so. To fail in this is to be complicit in the dismantling America’s rule of law. Insist the administration obey the courts and the Constitution. Bring Mr. Abrego Garcia home.
