Read the Trumpstein Files. Stop the SAVE Act.
To: Sen. Hickenlooper, Sen. Bennet

Use every procedural tool you have to stop the SAVE America Act from reaching Donald Trump’s desk. This bill is poison to democratic legitimacy. It does not strengthen confidence in elections. It undermines confidence by telling millions of lawful voters that their status, their paperwork, and their right to participate are all suddenly suspect. Senate Republicans are advancing the SAVE America Act as a proof of citizenship and voter ID measure, while Democratic senators and voting rights advocates are warning that it could disenfranchise millions of eligible citizens and force states into disruptive voter roll purges. That alone is reason enough to fight it with everything available. The greater reason is the political moment in which it is being pushed. The same administration demanding more power over elections is also under bipartisan scrutiny for its handling of the Epstein files. The Justice Department has been accused of over-redaction, withholding, and mishandling key records. A House panel has now subpoenaed Attorney General Pam Bondi, and lawmakers from both parties have raised concerns about whether the administration fully disclosed what the law required. Reuters reports that the controversy includes allegations that the Department redacted or withheld names of influential individuals connected to Epstein, while the Department denies any deliberate cover-up. So use the floor. Force a real speaking filibuster. Read the files into the record. Read the overlooked material, the parts that did not get the headlines, the details that powerful people would prefer to leave buried in the noise of redactions, procedural fog, and partisan spin. Let the country hear what this administration has handled in secret while it demands new authority over the machinery of voting. Axios reported that members of Congress were given access to unredacted Epstein records for review after the public release of heavily redacted files. That means there is material available to put before the public in the course of lawful Senate debate. Do not let this bill slide through on manufactured panic. Do not let procedural caution become complicity. If Republicans want to poison faith in elections while shielding politically dangerous facts from public view, then make them do it in the harshest light possible, with every word dragged into the Congressional Record.
