I write not as a partisan, but as a citizen of a fragile democracy. The time for neutrality has passed. We are living through a moment that demands moral clarity, constitutional courage, and a break from the silence that has allowed authoritarianism to take root. The Trump administration and its enablers have, by action and inaction, pursued a form of governance hostile to the Constitution and our founding ideals. From political violence to state-sanctioned disinformation, attacks on the press, and incitement of insurrection, their conduct presents a grave danger. As stated in the Declaration of Independence: “A Prince whose character is thus marked by every act which may define a Tyrant, is unfit to be the ruler of a free people.” Trump, through efforts to overturn a lawful election, incite violence against Congress, and use federal forces against civilians, has shown himself unfit to hold office. His ongoing influence—and the complicity of those who protect him—threatens our Republic. Under Article II, Section 4 of the Constitution, impeachment and removal are mandated for “high Crimes and Misdemeanors.” The events in Los Angeles and other cities—marked by violence inflamed by Trump’s rhetoric—are the product of years of lawless leadership. In Youngstown v. Sawyer (1952), the Supreme Court made clear: the President’s power must be bounded by law. Trump repeatedly violated that boundary. Federalist No. 51 reminds us: “You must first enable the government to control the governed; and in the next place oblige it to control itself.” Congress must act now—not just to ensure Trump cannot return to office, but to disqualify and hold accountable all who enabled this erosion of democracy. To remain silent is to stand complicit. The world is watching. History will remember what you did next.
