Thank you for your recent letter regarding your support for the “One Big Beautiful Bill Act.” I appreciate receiving a response and understand your concerns about federal spending and fiscal responsibility. However, I must respectfully express my deep disagreement with both the rationale behind your vote and the priorities reflected in the legislation.
While I share the belief that responsible budgeting is essential, I am alarmed by what appears to be a willingness to cut critical domestic programs—such as Medicaid—under the guise of deficit reduction, while simultaneously supporting increased defense spending and failing to address the revenue side of the equation. The refusal to consider reversing the Trump-era tax cuts for the wealthy, despite their contribution to long-term deficits, is especially concerning.
Furthermore, I reject the repeated framing of the previous administration’s policies as having left the country in disarray. In truth, the roots of many challenges—rising inequality, climate instability, and unsustainable healthcare costs—transcend any one administration and demand bipartisan, solutions-focused leadership rather than partisan blame. President Biden provided us with an economy that was the envy of the world, per Rogé Karma of The Atlantic.
I urge you to reconsider your approach to fiscal policy, to protect rather than cut vital services for working families, and to prioritize equitable taxation so that all Americans contribute fairly to the nation's prosperity.
