I’ve been a long-time supporter of yours. I’ve proudly touted your accomplishments among my audience and friends. I continue to remark that your climate accomplishments are among the most impactful of any modern U.S. president. And I’ve even stood in your defense amidst concerns over your age. I’ve always trusted your word that you have what it takes to do the job of the president. And I *hoped* you had what it takes to do the job of *running* for president. Unfortunately, I no longer feel this way. I fear that even if you run a perfect campaign moving forward, it is impossible for you to make it to November without a single gaffe, trip, or name mixup. Let alone the very real possibility of a health issue. Right now, we still have time for you to step out of the race. We have time for delegates to pick between a number of talented, young democratic candidates. And we have time for the public to get to know them and rally to support them. Mr. President, you’ve had one of the most impactful tenures of any president in American history. You’ve accomplished things that I believe no other candidate could have. You brought your wisdom, your experience, your bipartisan relationships, and your steady hand to the White House when we needed it most. I’m proud to have voted for you in 2020. It’s one of the best things America has ever done. We can celebrate the incredible legacy you’ve left behind — and avoid tarnishing it with a failed election marred in regret at what could have been. Please, step out of the race. Allow delegates to make a decision on who the next democratic ticket will be. Passing the baton is one of the most impactful things you could do. I’m asking you to please do so. Thank you for your service. I hope you’ll take the brave next step.
