Senator, I am writing to strongly voice my opposition to the Trump tax bill that passed the House in the early morning of May 22. This bill includes so many dangerous propositions for our country that it is difficult to focus on one, but I will share on that directly affects my family. I am a queer woman. My wife is transgender. We chose to remain in California due to the protections the state affords us. It was with great disappointment we watched her identity be bantered around the National stage. We saw Democrats we considered allies say that it was "too much" to stand up for her. We saw people who claimed to respect and love her say that the lukewarm support we saw in the 2024 election was more than she deserved. Now she and so many in our vibrant and beautiful community are at risk of losing the care that saves their lives. If the party does not do everything in their power to stop this bill, they are saying our communities lives do not matter to them. And I know it is not just OUR lives at stake with this bill. We are not the only ones who will die if this bill passes. This is not hyperbole. The stakes are high. I was born in 1982. I have so few gay elders because they all died of AIDS. I do not want a repeat of that crisis. And I will not support anyone who allows it to happen. We are all watching. And begging.
