Support AB 2497

To: Gov. Newsom, Sen. Laird, Asm. Addis

From: A constituent in Aptos, CA

April 29

I am asking that you SUPPORT AB 2497, which seeks to modernize the Physical Therapy Practice Act and better align it with today’s healthcare landscape. This legislation represents a thoughtful, patient-centered effort to align California law with how physical therapy is practiced today. This bill proposes to improve patient access to care, patient clinical outcomes, and can reduce unnecessary barriers for patients. Musculoskeletal conditions account for nearly one-third of healthcare visits. Yet antiquated practice laws continue to delay care, create inefficiencies, and limit access for patients. AB 2497 helps alleviate some of the pressure on the overworked health care system. This legislation would ensure that Californians can receive timely, effective, and coordinated care—including access to modern, evidence-based treatment options like dry needling—while maintaining strong patient protections and regulatory oversight.
