As your constituent, I urge you to withhold your vote for Hakeem Jeffries as Speaker of the House and Chuck Schumer as Senate Majority Leader, and to support new leadership instead.
Voters just gave Democrats a mandate for change on affordability, healthcare, corruption, and accountability. We need leaders who answer only to the public, and I believe the current leaders are too closely tied to the donors who fund their campaigns.
Campaign finance records show the pattern. OpenSecrets puts Jeffries' career total from pro-Israel PACs and individuals at about $1.74 million through 2024, slightly ahead of Schumer's $1.73 million. Jeffries was the House's top recipient of pro-Israel lobbying money in the 2023-24 cycle, and AIPAC was his top contributor. Both men have also taken money from other PACs and corporate interests, including the crypto industry.
I'm not accusing anyone of breaking the law. I'm saying that when so much money from organized interests flows to a party's top leaders, the public has good reason to worry about whose priorities come first.
I would like to see Representative Ayanna Pressley elected Speaker of the House and Senator Elizabeth Warren lead Senate Democrats. I believe they would put working families ahead of big donors.
I therefore ask you to:
1. Publicly commit to not supporting Jeffries for Speaker or Schumer for Majority Leader.
2. Support Pressley for Speaker and Warren for Senate leader, or other leaders who refuse corporate PAC and AIPAC-linked money.
Tell your constituents where you stand before the leadership votes.
