Did we learn nothing from our war in Iraq?

To: Rep. Van Duyne, Sen. Cruz, Sen. Cornyn

From: A constituent in Dallas, TX

January 6

This Republican administration has unilaterally decided to attack an oil- and mineral-rich country to affect regime change and seize that country’s natural resources. Did we learn nothing from our war in Iraq? In Afghanistan? As we learned in those conflicts, such wars are easy to start, but difficult to finish. How many more American troops will die in an attempt to seize another nation’s resources? This attack also provides validation for Putin’s aggression in Ukraine and precedent for Xi’s potential attack on Taiwan. Why have you and your colleagues in Congress not addressed this war? Refusing to debate, authorize, or deny war powers is not neutrality. It is abdication of your duty. If you believe the administration’s actions are justified, then vote on them. If you believe they are not, then stop them. Either way, hiding behind procedure is unacceptable. The Constitution you swore an oath to demands accountability. It demands action. It demands Congress govern. My wife and I strongly urge you to address this illegal war and fulfill your role as a check on this Republican administration. Restore stability to our country and around the world
